Most soil in a carpet is dry, almost 80%, and regular vacuuming is very important. It will remove the microscopic sharp edges that dirt is likely to have that causes wear and tear of the fibre.

According to  industry analysis up to 79%of the soil in a carpet is removable by dry cleaning and of course fine particulate soil is easier to remove when it’s dry.  Professional carpet cleaners should have the ability to perform thorough dry soil removal with professional vacuum equipment.  Professionals should also have more powerful equipment, and a better understanding of how and where soils build up in the carpet, plus the knowledge of how to remove maximum amounts of that dry particle soil with the techniques they employ.  Vacuuming procedures from a professional point-of-view should employ the following: nap preparation - with an appropriate brush, comb, or carpet groomer.

How long will it take for the carpet to dry?

The normal drying time is anywhere from two to four hours. By keeping the heat on in the winter or opening windows in the summer to promote ventilation you would cut the drying time in half.

Spillages

If you have an accidental spillage the first action is to blot the stain by using a white towel or some white thick paper towelling. With a small amount of water simply blot the carpet or rug and do not rub.
